Didactic Education Program

Every Thursday fellow’s didactic education time is from 1pm ~ 5pm.  During this time formal academic lectures are presented by the attending physicians and visiting lecturers.  Each fellow is also responsible to present a minimum of two (2) well researched case presentations throughout the year.  Case presentations will address all seven (7) Core Competencies and the fellow is likewise evaluated by an attending physician on those Core Competencies.  Lecture topics include but are not limited to cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, case review and a broad range of additional topics geared toward making our program a well rounded academic experience.

Visiting physicians to our program include Dr. Hector Michelena (Mayo Clinic), Dr. Joseph Bavaria (UPHS), Dr. Michael Acker (UPHS), Dr. V. Paul Addonizio (Abington Memorial Hospital) Dr. Itzak Kronzon (NYU), Dr. Daniel Shindler (UMDNJ-RWJ), Dr. Joyce Wald (UPHS), Dr. Blaze Carabello, Dr. Gary Heller, Dr. Thomas Dayspring and numerous local physicians who contribute their time and knowledge to our fellows in the areas of state of the art practice in Echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, valvular heart disease, Medical Ethics, Hemodynamics, Interpretation of Medical Literature, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Nutrition, and Radiation Physics.

Conferences and Didactic Function

Each year, each fellow is afforded the opportunity to attend one (1) conference.  The fellow is allowed two days off and is reimbursed up to $1,500.00 for an approved conference, including conference fees, travel and accommodations.  Conferences must be a core cardiovascular conference, approved by the program director.

Journal Club

A monthly fellow driven academic experience shared with attending physicians.  Each fellow will present an article in detail including statistical relevance, practice applications and an appropriate critique.  You can find all current and archived Journal Club articles on the sjhg.org website.

ECG Conference

A monthly ECG conference is held during Thursday lecture with Dr. Scott Siegal.  Strips are made available for review in advance on our SJHG website.  Following the monthly conference, interpretations and additional ECG training information is made available on the website.
